Presenters for Autonomous Tech Workshop

Ken Owens & Cognisense Labs

Cognisense Labs, co-founded by Dr. Ken Owens, is on the cutting edge of remote sensing and robotic engineering. The company is most noted for developing a system which uses GPS and inertial navigation for robotic landmine clearing. The system autonomously guides a robotic vehicle as it removes dangerous unexploded mines from abandoned minefields.

The company was founded in 2005 by a Humboldt State student-professor team of Dr. Owens and Paul Burgess. Dr. Owens, the CEO of Cognisense, will join us for the Autonomous Technology Workshop to discuss what opportunities there are in the autonomous technology industry for Humboldt County, and how the County can capitalize on them.

Tim Johnson & California Autonomous Technology Initiative

Tim Johnson is the founder of the CATI and the executive director of the Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation. CATI strives to energize the business opportunities in autonomous technology in California, and to foster funding of greater research into these technologies by leveraging the public and private sectors, as well as the academy.

He is also executive director of the Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation. YSEDC serves the communities of Yuba and Sutter counties, fostering healthy economic development, hosting local events and activities, and offering information on the local economy in those areas. The YSEDC also keeps a helpful and informative web site.

Tim Johnson will draw on his expertise and experience in both of these capacities as he speaks on the importance of autonomous technology, the impact it can have on the Humboldt County economy and the opportunities it offers.
